Ethno-tourism is very similar to eco-tourism, in that, it focuses upon “Responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people.” (TIES, 1990) Yet, ethno-tourism has a greater focus upon understanding the culture, customs and daily life of ethnic groups than eco-tourism. We want to help people experience life in a local village, not just observe it. At the same time, we want to help provide additional, sustainable income to more remote villages. Through our home stay tours, we seek to adhere to basic eco/ethno-tourism principles:
- Minimize impact.
- Build environmental and cultural awareness and respect.
- Provide positive experiences for both visitors and hosts.
- Provide financial benefits and empowerment for local people.
- Raise sensitivity to host countries’ political, environmental, and social climate.
